It's new year eve. Time to make the new year resolutions. Here goes the top of my priority list:
No. 1: Exercise more and start losing weight (apparently, the no. 1 goal for many for their new year resolution).
No. 2: Quit smoking.
No. 3: moderate Tik toking/ social media surfing.
No. 4: …………
It's January… Yeehaw, here we go, cowboy,
It's February… I am still on track,
It's March… I am a little tired with my work, but I am still keeping my new year resolutions rolling, kinda sometimes…
April: ZZzzzz….snooze…
.
.
.
December, on the eve of the new year… Reboot, and I am gonna make my new year resolutions…. AGAIN!
Sounds familiar? It happen every year? Isn’t it?
We have not failed to make a new year resolution on the eve of every new year. But what is the point when we start losing our motivation thereafter sometimes? When it comes to March, we were stuck by the datelines, busy with life, hardly spare time with the loved one, seldom have time for ourselves, and in the blink of the eye, it’s the new year eve again. Should we start making another list of new, perhaps, the same-old-recycled resolutions for the year 2022?
According to a Journal of Clinical Psychology study, just 46% of people who set new year resolutions succeeded. That means nearly half of new year resolvers fail miserably in pursuing their dreams. The study also included non-resolvers, those who didn't set a resolution but had a goal for the year. Bizarrely, only 4% of non-resolvers achieved their goals, worse than those making a new year resolution. With such horrendous findings, should we still even think about another potential failed resolution, yet again for the year 2022?

If we are guilty of making the resolutions that we do not follow or making pledges to ourselves that we quickly forget, here are, the reasons why creating and keeping them is very crucial.
It will assist us in being the person we wish to be. Want to lose weight. Look suave in an elegant suit. Walk and run faster than anyone. Being energetic despite a long day at the office. Hence, it is vital to make a new year resolution to become that person. Making a resolution can help us reflect on our values, clear our thoughts, and focus on who we want to become.
It provides stability. Knowing where we want to go in life can help us make better choices. A modest new year resolution for 2022 can still become handy in making crucial decisions that could lead us to the destination that we want to arrive at.
It keeps us motivated. How many times that we given up on our dreams/ motivation? Keeping a list of resolutions and reflecting on them can constantly motivate us to achieve what we want. As Alfred said to his master Bruce Wayne “Why do we fall, sir? So that we can learn to pick ourselves up”. Hence, we pick ourselves up.
Knowing the importance of making a new year resolution, here are some handy tips to keep us sticking to them and achieving our goals:
Mentally prepare to endure the list of resolutions that we made for the year 2022.
Set reasonable goals that can constantly motivate us.
Break up big goals into manageable and small resolutions.
Be specific on the goals. Aim for the bullseye.
Write down the goals in a journal or diary.
Share the resolutions with trustworthy friends and family.
Review the resolutions on constant basis. This can serve as a reminder to oneself.
Happy new year and cheers to a purpose-filled year 2022!
